Oromiya Region Islamic Affairs Supreme Council Department of Halal Certification Body (ORIASC-HCB) is the EIAC and SFDA Halal Center accredited national halal certification body in Ethiopia aimed to develop Halal products standard and conduct Halal product inspection in accordance with Islamic Law (Sharia) and parallel to internationally accepted and GSO standards for UAE, Saudi Arabia, and other Gulf Countries.

OUR OBJECTIVE IS

To examine, certify, and regulate all food products and consumer products in an efficient and effective manner based on GSO standard so as to guarantee that it complies with Halal requirements of UAE, Saudi Arabia and other Gulf Countries as required by Shariah (Islamic Low).

OUR MISSION IS

  • To study research, develop and establish Halal products standards in conformity with Islamic Law and parallel to International food standards.
  • To provide training in order to develop manpower related to Halal products standard activities to improve highly qualified personnel to support halal production and expand export opportunities.
  • To increase a wide range of knowledge and understanding of Halal products standard and Halal products standard accreditation to ensure more reliability and acceptability among concerned groups.

HALALA CERTIFICATION

Halal Certification will be be given for applicants when an initial audit/evaluation has been completed and systems deemed to be satisfactory to the standard requirements by the approved Decision Committee, the relevant Scheme or Asst. Scheme Manager shall inform the applicant accordingly and issue a certificate of Halal product certification.

What is Halal

HALAL in general term means permitted, allowed, authorized, approved, sanctioned, lawful, legal, legitimate or licit. The word ‘Food for Muslims’ or ‘food certified Halal’ or ‘Halal’ or having similar meanings can be define as follows:

 

A –  Free of, and not made of, or containing any part or substance taken or extracted from animal which are forbidden (HARAM) to be consumed by Muslims, according to Islamic laws (Shariah).


B – Not containing any substances, this is declared as filth according to Islamic Laws.


C – Not prepared, processed, produced or manufactured using utensils, equipment and / or machinery which are not free from filthy substances as directed by Islamic Laws, and


D – During preparation, processing or storage, it should not come into contact or be in close proximity with any food which do not fulfill the requirements as stipulated in Paragraph (a), (b) or (c) or any substance declared as being filth according to Islamic Law.
